Bruno Project Canada is a non-profit organization that helps injured and stray potcakes in St. Lucia and homeless dogs in Ontario.
Our primary focus is fundraising for spay/neuter clinics to help control the dog and cat population in St. Lucia. We also raise funds to provide parasite prevention, medical treatments, supplies, equipment, and food for the stray and shelter feeding programs, as well as for special projects.
We work closely with the volunteers at Bruno Project St. Lucia, and the St. Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS) to support them in their heroic efforts to ease the suffering of cats and dogs in St. Lucia and find adoptive homes for dogs in Canada.
When possible, we also take in unwanted dogs in Ontario, provide them with needed care and fosters, and seek homes for them locally.
Bruno Project St. Lucia was founded in 2016 by two Canadian women, Doris Jolicouer and Vanessa Deline. Bruno was the first dog they rescued, and Doris adopted him. The realization that sweet, beautiful Bruno would have died young as a stray if they hadn't saved him sparked an idea - what if they could help more? And so, they did!
Starting with one dog at a time, and learning as they went, Doris and Vanessa's idea grew and grew, as volunteers joined their mission to help the dogs in St. Lucia. Bruno Project St. Lucia has found homes off island for more than 1,600 dogs, and spayed/neutered, treated, and fed many, many more.
Bruno Project St. Lucia grew so big and had so many volunteers supporting the cause, two new branches - Bruno Project Canada, and Bruno Project USA - were launched to streamline the processes and retain the community spirit and dedication that has made this rescue so successful.
Sadly, there are many, many dogs available in St. Lucia. The SLAPS shelter has upwards of 120 dogs at almost any time, and Bruno Project St. Lucia cares for dozens of dogs in the streets, on the beaches, and in foster homes. We post our dogs currently available in Ontario here, and some on our Facebook and Instagram pages, but the sad truth is that we could never keep up.
Instead, we hope you contact us so we can talk about what you are looking for and show you some of the many beautiful puppies and adult dogs we have just waiting for a chance at a real home.
We also often feature Ontario dogs in need of homes. The shelters and rescues in Canada are in crisis with many people surrendering their pandemic dogs and even abandoning them in parks and forests, and "breeders" are literally dumping whole litters because they are unable to sell them. We can not look away from the devastating situation here in Ontario, and whenever we can, we take in dogs in need here.
Looking for a furry friend? We can help you find your perfect companion. We have dogs of all sizes and ages, either in our care or in the care of our rescue partners.
The first step is to complete an adoption application form (don't worry, you're not committing to anything yet!). We will contact you and have a chat about your dog experience, expectations, and requirements, as well as what you can expect from us. Then we contact your references and connect with you for an online virtual home visit. Once your application is complete, we can begin matching you with your forever friend and new family member.
Fostering an animal is a rewarding experience. Seeing an animal thrive through love and care can bring so much joy as a caregiver. To give vulnerable animals the best opportunity at the second chance they deserve, we're asking anyone who can help to join our team.
Why should I foster a dog?
